As infrastructure ages, it is critical for local governments to implement new technology that advances the management of that infrastructure. At GPSD, we are pleased to have recognized the need for advanced asset management and have invested in the tools necessary to make how we manage our infrastructure as efficiently as possible.
Advanced asset management is broadly defined as a body of management practices applied to the entire portfolio of infrastructure, seeking to minimize total cost, in a limited resource environment, while delivering on customer levels of service at an acceptable risk to the organization.
The Advanced Asset Management Game Plan:
Invest in a modern computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) platform necessary to implement asset management
Invest in hardware upgrades to move from paper and pen to real-time secure computerized data collection
Upgrade supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system for real-time updates of information
Upgrade geographic information system (GIS) system for real-time updates of information
Upskill existing workforce in the use of new tools
Evaluate mid- and long-term automation opportunities within the treatment plant and collection system
